Help conserve our Local Marine Ecosystems!
We are deeply concerned about the current state of our planet. Our local bay area oceans freshwater systems, and shoreline ecosystems are facing unprecedented levels of pollution, destruction, and degradation. We are witnessing the devastating effects of climate change, overfishing, and other human activities that are taking a toll on our planet's health and well-being.
Protect and preserve our oceans: The ocean covers over 70% of our planet and is home to diverse marine life. Our local San Rafael and Bay Area are affected by pollution every day. In San Francisco Bay the state Water Quality Standards are exceeded by pesticides, invasive species, mercury, and other metals and toxic substances. The bay area water gets a grade of B-C, which is good to fair. These shoreline areas that are in need of help are home to a lot of the bay's BIPOC population, disproportionately giving them higher rates of chronic disease, asthma, lower birth weights and life expectancy than other neighboring communities.
We are partnering with the Sierra Club Foundation, which assists local bay area governments with maintaining and cleaning toxic waste and pollution in ecosystems around the Bay, doing health tests for these ecosystems to insure prolonged safety.
By signing this petition, we are calling on governments, businesses, and individuals to take bold action to protect and restore our planet's natural systems. We urge decision-makers to prioritize environmental protection, support sustainable practices, and invest in conservation and restoration efforts. We have a responsibility to preserve our planet for future generations, and we must act now to ensure a healthy and thriving planet for all.
