Waldorf education is a handson and experiential approach to learning, founded by the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner in the early 20th century. It emphasizes the integration of intellectual, artistic, and practical skills within a curriculum designed to nurture the physical, emotional, and spiritual development of children. The curriculum often includes arts, crafts, music, dance, and nature-based activities, alongside traditional academic subjects, encouraging students to develop a lifelong love of learning and a deep sense of social responsibility. Waldorf schools aim to create a nurturing environment where students can flourish as well-rounded individuals, prepared to meet the challenges of the world with confidence and compassion.
THE 35MM CLUB
I was the president and founder of what became known as the 35mm Club at my school. I transferred in my junior year during the pandemic and didn’t know anyone. By the time my senior year started, I decided to create the 35mm Club. There's something magical about the art of using film to capture a moment. Back then, taking a photo required real effort and skill—you had to frame the shot, manage the exposure and aperture, and know how to roll and handle the film. Then, you'd head into a darkroom to develop it. The whole process was an experience in itself.
The most exciting part of shooting on film is getting your pictures back after they've been developed. It feels like opening a Christmas present. That roll could have captured moments from your entire month or a special trip, and when you finally see the images, it brings back all the memories you might have forgotten. It's like reliving those moments again.
I've always believed in stepping out of your comfort zone and embracing challenges. Life feels dull when everything stays the same. Challenges make life interesting and worth living—just like shooting with 35mm film.
Event Corrrdinator
I actively helped the student council organize events and fundraisers, and being involved with the school community was incredibly rewarding. The process of planning—from coordinating meetings to reaching out and managing logistics—was all part of the excitement. Seeing the event come to life, knowing it was the result of our hard work, made it that much more fulfilling. There's something special about putting in the effort and witnessing the impact it has on others. It’s truly appreciated when you’ve worked hard to make it happen.
School Photographer
I was apart of the yearbook both years I was at Sacramento Waldorf. I would photoraph events, dances, sport games, meetings, club events, faires and festivals.
This experinece taught me to photograph such pure and candid moments. Candid photos have always been my favorite to take. Being a school photographer is a beautiful experience that allows you to capture the memorable moments of students’ lives. You get to witness first-hand the students’ smiles, laughter, and joy as they interact with each other and the world around them. You also have the opportunity to document their growth and development over the years. With each photo you take, you are creating a lasting memory for the students and their families. It’s a great feeling to know that your work is helping to create lifelong memories for others.
